New work clothes

God, I admit it! I look really really fat in these photos, but I´m not complaining...hehe! I got my new workclothes delivered to me by a nice guy from postal services at 7 this morning! And was I awake? Sadly....NO! But I did wake up when I had these trousers and the cute blouse delivered! The trousers are great because I decided to skip jeans, and these fit me and I love the high waist!

Just wish I had combed my hair before I forced my colleauge to take this picture! The clothes are from http://www.vivienofholloway.com/

Loosing a customer

Hmm...I´ve sort of promised myself not to be the kind of blogger who complains and nags about things...but this is a story I just have to share.
Got some money from my dear mother the other day, and decided to spend some before Xmas. After all it´s not like I´m going to get any X-mas pressies if I don´t buy them myself anyway! (And I know how it sounds, but it really wasn´t complaining hehe, I´ve only have three men in my close vicinity and they all hate the thought of pressies...and to be honest I´d rather not have things I have exchange anyway!)
So...anyway...I went down to the posh part of town, and decided to have a look in a little boutique I have never visited before. But this time I saw a lovely 50´s style circleskirt in wool that I thought might be just the thing I needed. So in I go...and there was just the proprietor (a young girl) and a woman, who was obviously her mom, sitting on a sofa.
After a stroll around the shop I realised there was no more skirt hanging in the shop, so I asked for it. "Well, I only buy one or two things of each garment, handpicked from Paris" the proprietor says "and that skirt is small". The last word was said with a distinct look at my voluptuous curves....
"Alright". Prepared to leave I turn around and the mother says "But she does have a small waist"....
Will I ever enter that shop again? Make a guess.
I´m not a small girl. I´m not huge either. I can just imagine what all the biggish girls out there have to put up with when shopping...Time to make a change and make shops realise that big girls can be beautiful too!!!

And on that note I went out today and got myself a new handbag, a secondhand fake fur and a new bra from What Katie did. Good for me!

Giving the expression Man Hunting a new dimension!:)

By the way...the hairstyle is one I tried today. Quite hard to achieve I can tell you! But I guess practice makes perfect, so I´ll continue practising:)

Sunday, boring Sunday...

So what to do on a boring normal Sunday, when the weather is shit and you have to take care of stuffy chores like laundry (and run into a grumpy neighbour at the same time, granted that I DID use 3 mins of her time! But on the other hand she should remember the time her hubby ran down to pick up laundry 20 mins late and managed to pick most of my knickers too...and beleive me, mine looks a lot different from hers!) - ANYWAY! I have done the laundry, saved the vacuumcleaning till later and done some maintenance.

To be honest, at fiftysomething maintenance is a whole lot different than at twentysomething. Most of my maintenancetime these days is spent on my hair, but I did some general facialstuff too. Tonight, in the company of Miss Marple (yes, every Sunday!!) I will take care of pedicure and manicure and then I´m set to go for this week.

And here are some pics to show you what I meant the other day about the hair...:))

And if that last pic can´t get me on a diet, nothing can! :)

Take care out there!

Hairdos and dont´s

Just got back from my hairstylist, and look once again sleek and black. Ofcourse this event has to be remembered, photographed and on display for you dear readers - since it will only last until tomorrow morning!

I buy all these products, and somehow I always end up buying something new and fabulous every time I visit my stylist - and still the only time I look polished is just after the visit...

Finding The Perfect hair product seems to be an endless quest, just like the quest for the LBD (little black dress). I have always wondered how many small black dresses a wardrobe can have and the answer is ...as many as you can squeeze in there!

As my new style is slightly vintage and slightly 50´s I am not absolutely satisfied with this look. But I am perfectly comfortable knowing tomorrow is another day, and by then the shiny sleek look will be all gone. You´ll see!

Rainy day and comfort food

Today I woke up and it was a steady drizzle outside and no sun in sight. I also had to go to the doctor for an appointment and that didn´t exactly make me happier... So time to remember the beautiful week me and pilot had in the Cotswolds just ten days ago! And to cook shepherd´s pie for dinner...there is nothing like homemade, sturdy food to give a sense of comfort:)

Here are some pic´s from our holiday:

I have to admit I never thought the Cotswolds would be as pretty as in the pictures....but it truly was!

Faro´s daughter by Georgette Heyer

My own picture of a dress from the exhibition at Jane Austen Centre. Actually a copy of one worn in a tv-adaption of one of Austen´s books.

Once in a while I´ll write about a book I love, and what better book to start with than this? The first time I read it I was 12 years old, and my mum introduced me to Georgette Heyer in a smart move to make me read books in English. It was my first experience with romance novels and I never turned back:). Sassy heroes and clever heroines was Georgette Heyer´s trademark and maybe never more so than in Faro´s daughter -the story of the gaming club hostess who runs into big trouble when she meets the cousin of her young love-struck admirer, who actually seeks her up to buy her off!

Georgette Heyer published 40 historical novels, and this one is defintely one of my favourites. It is burning hot without ever introducing bedroom, sex or even lighter clothing...after all it was first published in 1941! But who needs sexscenes when the hero is a crewcut supermale like Max Ravenscar, with an intelligent,smart-ass heroine like Deborah Grantham? The dialogue is well-written, fun and fuming with held-back emotions and the conflict is there, as well as the gallery of secondary interesting characters. Regency romance never gets any better than this!

Ofcourse Georgette Heyer was also meticulous with her research and so, even though she cleverly disguised it, you will find that by reading her books you will be fed loads of information on upper-class life in England at this particular time in history. She was also an expert on writing dialogue that is time-honoring without being too historical and thereby boring. Maybe the most difficult task as a historical romance writer.

Simply there is so much to learn from Georgette Heyer as a writer, but most of all she is great fun to read!!

The first ever will never return

So I decided to start blogging.
Yes, it is a little bit out of frustration. My bad shoulder forces me to stay away from the computer and my book, so I´m reaching out to see if I can at least communicate this way. Hopefully it will take the edge of my frustration, as I plan to send short written statements into cyberspace and see them (most probably) fall unto earth and disappear like snowflakes in November.

Anyways, today is my first ever never to return blogentry...and I spent this lovely, clear Sunday walking around Söder with my friend Ewa. To celebrate the day we were both dressed up like real ladies, totally in black (even though Ewa had a cute purple scarf).

We had planned to go to Sivletto, but it was closed (stupid us for not checking!), but walking back we walked into the cutest little shop with a fun name - Devil´s Delight. A shop filled with lingerie, cute dresses, accessories and some real good vintage. Definitely one shop to recommend! The website is still in the making, but go and have a look at  http://www.devilsdelight.nu/

This evening will be spent in the company of Miss Marple, Georgette Heyer  and a nice cup of tea:)
